GA seeks construction manager for Capitol Campus project
OLYMPIA – General Administration released a
solicitation in the Seattle Journal of Commerce for a general
contractor/construction manager (GC/CM) for the Heritage
Center/Executive Office Building project today.
The solicitation and other associated documents can be found on the
project Web site at
www.ga.wa.gov/HCEOB.
GA will be accepting proposals until April 3 and the project team
anticipates signing a contractor no later than June.
The GC/CM will participate in the next phases of the design process
with the architects. The GC/CM will also conduct constructability
reviews, prepare schedules prior to the start of construction and
participate in value engineering, a process that analyzes cost
efficiency.
In addition, the construction manager will manage the overall
construction of the project, including obtaining materials as well
as the management of subcontractors to ensure efficiency and
quality.
The Washington State Heritage Center will provide a permanent
on-campus home for the State Archives and State Library collections.
In addition, there will be opportunity for visitors of all ages. A
fundraising plan is underway to support the center’s K-12 learning
center, exhibit hall, state-of-the-art museum, event center and
auditorium.
The Executive Office Building will relocate elected officials
displaced by the 2001 Nisqually earthquake back to the campus and
help improve public access to those officials.
GA is managing the project’s construction and expects to be
completed by 2012.
