New policy guides public displays, events at Capitol Campus
OLYMPIA – The Department of General Administration’s capitol facilities policy has been clarified to reflect current practices for authorizing events and displays on the Capitol Campus.
The department is continuing to review its policy to better meet the needs of the public as well as state agencies and officials.
General Administration is in charge of managing events and displays on the Capitol Campus in Olympia with applications considered by the department’s Visitor Services. Typical events include rallies, state ceremonies, weddings, walks/runs, picnics and musical presentations along with displays of various types.
On average, the department issues about 300 permits annually for events and displays.
General Administration has jurisdiction only for events and displays on the Capitol Campus. The facilities subject to the department’s policy are:
• All public areas and buildings on the Capitol Campus.
• The Old Capitol Building next to Sylvester Park in downtown Olympia.
• Sylvester, Heritage and Marathon parks.
• The surface and shores of Capitol Lake.
